Skaven Gutter Runners

Time for a new army! Here are the first of the Skaven I've started putting together for the Adepticon Team Tournament, a little unit of Gutter Runners. They are just about ready for primer.

Empire Wizards

I'm in the middle of converting a bunch of Skaven for my next army project and should have some progress shots soon. In the meantime, here are some oldies, a couple of Empire Wizards that I did when the plastic Wizard came out a few years back. I was especially happy with the way the Jade (green) wizard turned out.

Pesky Pestilens

So all I'm saying is I started working on Skaven yesterday and now everyone has the worst stomach flu I've ever seen. Stupid rat-mans.

Warp Hunter

I've always thought the turrets on Falcons and Fire Prisms looked a little awkward and top heavy so I was a happy boy when I found this nifty space Stug from Forge World. I like both its asymmetry and unrepentant donginess.  It is also brings the fun times in games. It is trickier to use than a Fire Prism but sneaking up on Space Marines and dropping an AP 2 Flamer template on them is good stuff. Nothing brings a tear to the eye quite like tearing space time a new asshole with a ridiculously over sized D-Cannon.

Because you can never have enough Wraithlords.

I can see the light at the end of the Eldar tunnel... for now. Finished painting my tank-huntin' Wraithlord today. I gave him a shortened pulse laser instead of a bright lance for maximum NRA style. Also (cough) note the homemade wing-airfoil thingies on his back. What the heck are those things, anyway?)

Reallyfarseer

Powering along through the Eldar. Having a wraithy army, I guess that it was inevitable that I added this guy. I converted a Wraithlord to have a halberd back before the Forgeworld released the Wraithseer and now he has a buddy. More importantly, as of the 8th edition FAQ, this guy can now give my 10-man unith of wraithguard a 4+ Feel No Pain save - making them pretty darn good all of the sudden.

More Eldarses

Here are some Rangers/Pathfinders. These are really goddamn nice models. I'm assuming Jes sculpted them? I always enjoy painting drapery and while simple, these are some of the nicest robes I've ever painted.  I just did these guys to army standard but I really wanted to take them farther. Whoops, fogot to dullcoat them, shiney heads!

Yet another rumor about the next Eldar release surfaced on the interwebs today. Someday...

Serpentor del Mar

I got some time to paint during my "hurricane leave" and I finished up a floaty tank! A few minor modifications and the weapons are of course, attached with rare earth magnets for easy swappin'. I have lots more Eldar primed and base coated. The Pathfinders should be finished soon. Looking forward to finally having a 2000-ish point 40K army!

Long Range Desert Group

Knee-deep in Eldar at the moment so here is another little blast from the past.

Artizan Designs Long Range Desert Group
These are Long Range Desert Group dudes from Artizan Designs. I painted them up a bunch of years back when I was painting more in the Kevin Dallimore style. I had so much fun painting them that I even wrote a little tune about them. One of these days I should paint a truck for them!

PS. Horses and bayonets, oh snap!

Mr. Wraithypants

The gaming group is playing 40K again so I guess I'll work on my hilariously ineffective Eldar army. Based on assorted interweb rumors, I hoping for an eldar release round about next fall.

First rule of Craftworld Béasti-Albrown: Any space elves caught outside without their helmet on will be decapitated by a giant pair of sprue-cutters. This goes double for anyone with a top-knot, I don't care how easy they are to sculpt.

Why interrupt the the intergalactic lemon party to fight with Space Marines when you can get dead guys to do most of the work for you?
Next up: There be Forge World things in the mail!

Lucky Duck

This is my Forgeworld Thunderbolt. I'm not posting it for any particular reason, but as Steven Colbert once said about Anduril, Flame of the West, "I just want to remind everyone that I have this.

I painted this a bunch of years back for use in a 40k-scale game of Aeronautica Imperialis that we put on at all the U.S. Games Days. Forgeworld even cast us up a bunch of giant Auronautica bases for the event. Unfortunately, after surviving four Games Days and shipment in between each,  most of the other planes that were painted for this event were destroyed by the useless, toothless hucklebucks at the Games Workshop warehouse in Memphis. I guess mine was packed right in the center of the crate because somehow it survived. I salute to the fallen heroes that didn't make it back!

The Golden Gruhalas

Dropzone Games her in MD had their Grand Opening bonanza this weekend and had a nice litle painting contest to go along with it. Originally I was only going to enter a single model, but once I saw just how good the competition was, I covered my bases and entered all three categories. I think they ended up getting around sixty entries and some of them were really dang nice. The Cadians that won best squad were fan-freakin'-tastic. I got a spiffy plaque for this old thing, happy dance.

Keep up the good work, Tom. If GW could make stores like Dropzone, their retail operations might actually turn a profit. Har har.

Update: Here are all of the contestants and the winners.

New Orks

Long time no update! I got some time to hobby last weekend and I put together a couple new guys for my slowly growing Blood Axe gang. I intended to make my Kommando Kan look a bit less silly than the stock Killa Kan Models. As you can see, I failed miserably. I like the lil' fella though. Mega Armored Kommando is just plain badass, if I do say so myself.

Arbite SWAT Buddies

Here's a trip down memory lane. These are the first models I ever put in a painting competition. I entered them in the staff Golden Demons in Baltimore in 2007 I think. I got a Silver! That dirty Bastard John Shaffer beat me with his crazy Enty Beastmen. Every now and then I get an email from some random person asking me how I made these guys. As best I can remember, they are Cadian heads with greenstuff goggles, Candian bodies, chopped up Marine Scout arms and scout legs. The guns are chopped-down lasguns with bolt pistol clips that are sliced in half.

Dorcs

So I'm trying to convince my little gaming group to do a 40K Killzone campaign this fall. I like skirmish games because a) they are mucho fun and b) painting 20 dudes is a lot easier than painting 100 dudes. Small armies also allow you to put a lot more personality into each model. Here are some Orks I cobbled together this week. Nifty resin bits are from Kromlech and Forgeworld.

I'll mail you a free Choco Taco if you can guess what the Engineer Mek is holding in his left hand.

Lord Zhufor sans Base

Here is the Lord Zhufor I have been working on for the Black Crusade 2012 Charity Auction. Chaos, metallics and gratuitous skulls, I'm definitely out of my painting comfort zone! The base is the mail. More photos when I get it painted.

Nurgley Buddy

I'm still working on Lord Zhufor for the Black Crusade Charity Army, hopefully I'll be done by Sunday. In the meantime, here is a little Nurgle cultist I painted up for the Adepticon Painting Contest a few years ago. He got gold in Sci-Fi Single, yay me!

Kromlec

I all of my posts up to this point have been photos of my work, but Kromlech put just posted this on Facebook and I thought I would share:

Forge Father Drakkarim

Long time with no updates! I was on vacation for a week and didn't get much painting done but I'm back at it now and here are the first batch of painted Forge Fathers for my Adepticon army. I went with good ol' feldgrau for the paint scheme. Next up, I'm working on Lord Zhufor for the Black Crusade 2012 Charity Auction.

Thunderspuds

Here's another model I'm working on for my Forge Pappies. The Hailstorm Gun is a pretty nifty little model but I can never seem to leave well enough alone. I added ammo drums for the bottom two guns and converted the barrels so two of the guns were in recoiled positions. I also added a little hydraulic recoil mechanism to each cannon. I also chopped the seat off the back and added a Basilisk-style crew platform. I'm going to use this thing as a Thunderfire Cannon and the platform will allow me to put my "Techmarine" on the gun carriage and then pop him off if it is destroyed. It still needs a few rivets and a little finishing work but it's pretty close to done. Here is the unaltered model for comparison.

Skrimps

This week I've been getting started on the Forge Father army I plan to take to Adepticon next spring. I will be using it in a one of the tournaments for a certain game that takes place sometime between the thirty-nine and forty-first thousandth millennium.  I've worked out my army list and I will be using these little guys as proxy for the ubiquitous floating leathernecks. Here are the Sergeants for my first two squads. More putty buddies to come soon!

¡Hola!

I'm currently in the middle of assembling a big file of metal figures so nothing cool to show today. To tide you over, here are some banditos from Wargames Foundry that I painted a few years back. There was big talk of a Legends of the Old West Campaign back when I worked at GW, but the organizer flaked out, as was par for the course. Hopefully I'll get to use these guys someday in some tabletop spaghetti tex-mex fun-times!

AB 20mm Americans

My friend Ty dragged me into 20mm WWII a few years ago. I was initially not interested in small scale figures, but when he showed me these AB guys it changed my tune. They are quite small -- they are based on pennies, to give you a scale reference. They have an astonishing amount of detail for their size and their weapons, equipment and uniforms are extremely accurate. Rivet counters will love these dudes. The best part about them though is their excellent anatomy and natural looking poses. They look the way guys standing around with rifles really look. I can't say enough nice things about them. Go buy some now, if you know what is good for you. You pretty much have to send smoke signals to order from AB, but it is worth it.

These popped up on my radar again because I was digging through my miniatures the other day and I came across the three vehicles below. They were, of course 90% finished -- story of my life. After a little drybrushing and and basing and they are good enough. When I have some more time I wouldn't mind smoothing out the drybushing with some thinned down base coat. The vehicles are from Cromwell Models, by the way. Very nice resin kits, but I don't think they are in business anymore.

Painted Kommandos

I finally got the first half of my Kommandos painted. I was a big fan of the metal Kommandos right from the get go and I enjoyed converting some plastic guys to match. The guy with my rokkit pistol is my favorite but I like the guy holding the pistol with both hands and the S.A.W. big shoota too! Five more to go including a Nob...

Eldar Smeldar

I'm still working on my Kommandos, so here are some older models tide over Mr. Blog. I painted up this Iyanden-ish Eldar Army for the Adepticon Team Tournament a couple of years ago. My teammates and I were of course, summarily stomped by various flavors of Space Marines all day. Fortunately we brought beer. I would like to add another 1000 points or so to these guys at some point, maybe when the next book comes out. There is a box of Dark Reapers calling to me from the basement.

Nimh-rods

I just finished these guysup for Joe at Mantic Games. He'll be using them along with the Corporation Marines to Demo Warpath at various stores and conventions. He'll be doing demo games at the Grand Opening of Dropzone Games in Glen Burnie, MD on June 23. Tom Gruhala, the former Manager of the Glen Burnie Battle Bunker, is opening Dropzone in the same space the bunker was in before it closed. "I'll show 'em, I'll re-open it my damn self!" He didn't actually say that, as far as I know, but I like to imagine he did.
